Limits of this tool

  • It warns at the limits we use on our own pages: titles of 59 characters or fewer, descriptions of 154 or fewer. They are our house rules, not Google’s. Source: Dices Agency page rules
  • Google sets no length limit on titles or meta descriptions. It cuts them to fit the device. Source: Google: title links, updated 10 December 2025, and Google: snippets, updated 20 April 2026
  • Google may show other text from the page instead of your description. Source: Google: snippets, updated 20 April 2026
  • The previews and the pixel width are estimates. Each device cuts differently, and result pages change.
  • It checks one title and one description at a time. It cannot crawl your site.
  • Nothing you type is sent or stored. The check runs in your browser.

Rules last checked 22 October 2026.

What a meta title and description are

The title tag names a page. Search results usually show it as the link people click. The meta description is a short summary under it, which Google may show or replace with other text from the page.

Neither has a length limit in Google’s rules. Results cut both to fit the device, so long ones often end in the middle of a word.

A good title says what the page offers, with the words that matter first. A good description says who it is for and what to do next.

How to use the checker

  1. Paste the title tag into the first field.
  2. Paste the meta description into the second field.
  3. Add the page address if you want it in the preview. It stays in your browser.
  4. Watch the previews and the counts as you edit.
  5. Press Check for the result, with a Pass, Check or Fix label on each rule.

How to read your result

Each rule gets one of three labels, with the reason next to it.

  • Pass: it fits the rule. Nothing to do.
  • Check: it may be cut short, it is missing, or it repeats the title. Worth a second look.
  • Fix: something every page needs is missing, such as a title.

The pixel width is information, not a rule. It shows how wide the title may run on a desktop result.

How to fix the common problems

The title is too long

Put the words that matter first, and cut the rest. Keep the brand name short, or move it to the end.

The description is missing or copied

Write one for each page that sells. Say what the page offers and who it is for, in one or two sentences.

Many pages share one title

Duplicate titles usually point to duplicate pages. Our monthly SEO plans include on-page work on up to 10, 25 or 50 pages, depending on the plan.

Yes. No sign-up and no email. The full result shows on this page.

No. The check runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us or stored.

It applies the rules in the limits box, each with its source and check date. The previews and pixel width are estimates, because results cut text to fit each device.

Google sets no limit. We keep titles to 59 characters or fewer on our own pages, so the important words show before any cut.

Yes. Ask for the free audit and a person looks at your site, not just one page.
